Every Marvel show and film spawns fan theories, but the fervor around WandaVision took things to a new pitch. From speculations about Mephisto and Reed Richards to a secret tenth episode, MCU fans were determined to solve the show’s mysteries, for better and worse.
The upcoming Agatha All Along will spawn plenty of theories of its own, but it sounds like the crew has learned from WandaVision and is determined to not let things get so out of control. In an interview with actor Joe Locke (who plays Agatha’s tagalong simply known as “Teen”), the Hollywood Reporter noted showrunner Jac Schaeffer took “extra steps” to stop the theorycrafting from getting so chaotic. For Teen, this was encouraged by choosing to mute or visually censor him whenever he mentions anything about his background or identity. Despite thinking all the secrecy was “really frustrating” “at first, Locke eventually came around on the need to keep things close to the chest.
“Secrets are secrets for a reason,” he explained. “If I was able to talk about it now, it would ruin the whole point of the show, and that is what keeps me being able to keep a secret.” What’s not a secret is how much Locke enjoyed playing the character, not just because it’s Marvel, but also since Teen let him play a more “mysterious and complicated character” than his previous roles. The most exciting thing for him will be seeing how audiences take to Teen and his growth throughout the series. “The Teen we see in the first four or so episodes is very different to the Teen we see in the last couple of episodes,” he teased. “Even on this press day, people are talking about the character, and I’m like, ‘Ah, that’s what you think now.’”
Agatha All Along premieres September 18 on Disney+.
